4 Secret Selling Techniques You Must Implement

Summary:

To reach our business goals we need right resources and/or the insights to help our business reach the success it’s capable of.  Following four insights will help us generate the business we’ve always dreamed of.

Article Body:

1.  Experiment with New Advertising Methods

A sharp decline in the effectiveness of our advertising campaign is usually the the first sign that we might need to explore new marketing strategies We shell out and ( as critics say – BURN) hard earned cash to advertise, and pubic turns its nose up! Procrastinating till our profits are plunging to start hunting for new marketing strategies is futile.

What could possibly be these foolproof selling techniques? Yeah, no more customers walking out with empty hands… no more profits disappearing into thin air! Share below,  are 4 secrets that will help you put money in your pocket, and enhance your current customer list and augment, hyperscale your business.

1. Make It Easy

While the old adage – variety is the spice of life is true;  giving customers too many choices can lead them into indecision or procrastination. We know, very well;  when customers procrastinate … we lose sale!

Imagine a customer walks into shop / the point of purchase, your business premises; and is ready to purchase, and suddenly sees several options he didn’t know existed, he’ll stop, and then decide… which one?   If he’s uncertain… well, you lose a sale that was already in your pocket.

Make it easy for your customers to decide… yes, I’ll buy it… no I won’t buy it.  Yes and no decisions are a lot easier to make, and are more likely to put cash in the drawer.

2. Offer Several Ways To Buy

Too many choices can overwhelm customers and can cost you sales.  These options of how to buy may open up avenues for customers to purchase the product they’ve decided they need. They say there are different strokes for different folks… your customers don’t all use same methods to buy.  It just makes sense that if the method they prefer is available, they’ll be more likely to take advantage of it.

Convenience it the key to attracting buyers in today’s fast paced society.  What will be the fastest and easiest for them… credit card, phone, fax, Internet, or cold hard cash?

3. Keep it Simple

Do you remember the frustration of spending 10 minutes pushing buttons on the phone just to get through a pain-in-the-neck automated ordering service.  Heck, you just wanted to buy that one item!  Maybe it was the time you had to click your finger raw, just to jump through the hoops of an online shopping cart.  Yeah, the temptation to just forget it is right there!

Don’t frustrate your customers with intricate ordering processes.  Most likely, they just want to place the order in a few minutes and be done.  Let them get frustrated, and they’ll go elsewhere, or just abandon the idea altogether.

4. Follow Up

One of my favorite catalog companies always closes out the sale with a special buy that is available only at the time of purchase.  I’m an impulsive shopper by  but it stops me in my tracks every time.  I know it’s a one-time shot, and I really consider whether I want or need it before I hang up the phone.

How many items would your customers buy if you were to follow up every sale with a special offer?  Internet marketers have a world of options at their fingertips.  The products you offer don’t even have to be yours… and you can still make a profit!

Affiliate marketing is sweeping the Web.  Think about it… would your customers benefit from an ebook that deals with the product they are purchasing?  You can offer it to them, and let the owner handle ordering process while you collect the commission.  It’s as easy as 1, 2, and 3 and profitable too!

Boosting your sales numbers and profits isn’t as tough as it sounds.  Implement these 4 simple selling techniques, and watch your sales steadily climb… and just think… they didn’t cost you a penny!

13 Starbucks hacks you need to know

Admit it — you’re low-key obsessed with Starbucks. Starbucks is not just a restaurant — it’s a lifestyle. We wait year round for the infamous PSL (being labeled “basic,” be damned), know it’s time for Christmas when they start serving Gingerbread Lattes from Christmas cups, and look forward to summer with fruity, refreshing, and Insta-worthy iced teas.

But it can be a pretty expensive obsession to have! With typical menu drinks costing about $3-$7, plus whatever add-ins you prefer, it can add up (especially if it’s a daily occurence!). However — it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s worth looking into how to get more bang for our (Star)buck, and how many options the trusty coffee chain and cafe really can offer us. Read on for the hacks that will save you time, money, and calories at Starbucks.

1. Don’t limit yourself to what’s on the menu

In fact, the most expert Starbucks-frequenters rarely order off the menu, to get their favorite drinks and to save money! Check out the secret menu (yes, it really does exist!) or try these secret menu drink concoctions that are all $3, and never pay $5 for a coffee again! If you prefer lattes, order the cafe misto, which tastes the same (half coffee, half milk), but is significantly cheaper (and will save you calories!). More of a tea drinker? A chai latte misto is half steamed milk and half brewed chai tea, saving you money and sugar (you can also just order a hot chai tea with steamed milk if the terminology weirds you out, and save about $2).

2. Make your own drinks for a cheaper price

Iced lattes are one of the most satisfying and refreshing drinks, but can get pricey, especially if you prefer them in Venti size instead of the Tall (don’t we all on Monday mornings?). Instead of ordering a latte, order a triple espresso over ice, in a Venti cup (with room for milk), and then go to the condiments area to fill up your coffee with milk, which makes an iced latte, but for a fraction of the cost. If you prefer your lattes hot, you can also order a Tall coffee with steamed milk (still cheaper than a latte!), or a Tall hot coffee in a Grande cup, and fill up on the milk at the condiments station — a Grande latte for the price of a Tall coffee!

3. Never pay full price for two drinks during the same trip, again

Spend a lot of workdays or meetings at Starbucks where you stay for hours and get multiple drinks? Or maybe just one cup of coffee for you doesn’t cut it? Anytime throughout the day (and in any size — Tall, Grande, or Venti), refill your cup with brewed coffee or tea for just 5o cents. Just know that “refills” only count as iced or hot coffee and iced or hot tea (but remember the tricks above to turn it into a latte!). Also an insider tip: you can get a 50 cent refill with coffee or tea, even if your original drink was not just brewed coffee or tea. So feel free to fill up on a Pumpkin Spice Latte and get a 50 cent extra pick-me-up of tea before you leave!

4. Bring your own cup

Not only will you be saving the planet, one coffee cup and plastic straw at a time, but you’ll also save 10 cents on your drink whenever you bring your own tumbler, cup, or mug. We love using an ever-so-chic mason jar with a lid, or — funny you should mention it — Starbucks has amazing reusable cups of their own. We love this one, this one, and this one.

5. Sign up for Rewards

Normally I detest rewards programs at restaurants and stores — it’s just more spam emails and I probably spend more money than I save (it’s hard to resist a 30% sale or free pastry with purchase of drink). But at Starbucks, it is a must (and with no cons)! First of all, it’s free to sign up (did that convince you enough?), and besides just having a ton of perks for being a reward member (hello, free birthday drink!), you also earn points for a number of things, like purchasing anything in store and certain Starbucks items in grocery stores, that can be used for free food and drinks. Did we mention that it’s free?

6. Don’t buy a water bottle!

Never pay $3 for the plastic water bottle in the Starbucks fridge; just ask for a Venti iced water! You don’t have to worry about the water not being clean — Starbucks triple-filters their water and ice, so you know it’s as clean as possible and you could save some serious money. For an environmentally friendly option, you can also bring your own reusable bottle and ask Starbucks to fill it with water and ice, for free.

7. Order a French Press Pot of coffee

Going with friends or know you’ll want a few cups during your day at Starbucks? Order a French Press pot of coffee instead of individual cups. Each pot serves a few cups of coffee, but will be cheaper than buying each cup individually. Enjoy a pot with your friends, or get a serious caffeine buzz on your own (sometimes, we just need it!).

8. Get the most out of your iced drink

If you’re getting an iced tea, ask for “no water.” Iced teas are typically watered down from the original pitcher into your cup, so asking for no water will make the brew stronger. You can also ask for “light ice” (unless you prefer lots of ice). Ice is usually filled up much more than is necessary to keep the drink cold, limiting the volume of space the barista can fill the cup up with your favorite coffee drink or tea. Having light ice will give you more bang for your buck because you’ll be getting more of your drink, while still keeping it nice and cold.

9. Be specific about your syrup

I love the occasional PSL or Vanilla Latte as much as the next girl, but did you know that a Tall with sweetener has three pumps of syrup, a Grande has four pumps, and a Venti has five or six pumps? Just one pump is about 20 calories and 5 grams of sugar… are you keeping up with this math? That means just a Tall has 15 grams of sugar in the syrup alone. I don’t even want to think about how much is in a Venti! Asking for either one or two pumps per drink still gives the same flavor (we need that pumpkin spice!!) and sweetens up your drink, but if you order a Grande Vanilla Latte with two pumps vanilla syrup, you’d be saving 40 calories and 10 grams of sugar, for not much difference in taste.

10. Ask for a sample so you never get a drink you dislike again!

I don’t know about you, but I usually stick to the usual iced coffee, just so I don’t risk getting a drink that I end up not liking. But oh the possibilities out there in the Starbucks universe! Unless the store is super busy, the barista should be totally fine getting you a sample of a certain brew or drink, if you’re unsure whether or not you’d like it.

11. Know all the sizes

Thought “Tall” was the smallest? Think again — “Short” is an 8oz size (“Tall” is 12oz), which clarifies that age-old confusion that “Tall” was the smallest size, when it counterintuitively sounds like the largest — it’s because “Short” is the size smaller. Clears up a lot, doesn’t it? If you’re in the mood for a small drink, Short is cheaper than a Tall. The “Short” cappuccino has the same amount of espresso as the “Tall,” so if caffeine is your goal, opt for the cheaper options.

12. Are you and a friend both getting a Frappucino? Get one Venti!

A Venti size of your favorite sweet iced drink is about 24oz, while a Tall is 12oz. However, a Venti frappe is significantly cheaper than two Tall frappes would be (about $4 less, precisely). So instead of getting two, order the Venti size and ask for two Tall cups. Divide accordingly, and enjoy your frappucino with your friend, knowing you both saved money.

13. No time to wait in line? Order through your cell phone!

Using the Starbucks Mobile app, you can order ahead of time, and just go pick it up. No more waiting in long lines for your coffee! We’re busy women — we have much more important things to do.

Generating some random terms is a great way to drive into your creative faculties .

Moving To The Void. Is this going to nothingness? Is this about going towards universe as your marketplace? Do you see a void that you can fill?/is there a space you can create for your businesses?/

Cause Squinting Eyes. 😂 Funny No? Squint (also known as strabismus) is a condition that arises because of an incorrect balance of the muscles that move the eye, faulty nerve signals to the eye muscles and focusing faults (usually long sight). …

Normally, the two eyes point in the same direction.

What can cause to see with squinting eyes?

Does this trigger a memory? An incident? Was it funny? How can I use this in my speech? Will audience enjoy it?

Decorating A Cake With Thorns. That’s a very Nasty and Cruel thought, ain’t it?  But no one dared say this to God who designed the Rose and many other flowers with protective shields of thorns around them, did we?  May be, this means we need to have a deterrent created for sugar craving Diabetics like me from eating any part of the Sweet sugary Cake?! I don’t know. Or may be it is just a thought of creating a protective shell around a very attractive product so that the deterrent ( thorns) do not allow it to be broken or stolen. What do you think?
———————
Living Like A Bear In Winter. – I found this phrase funny and thought provoking. The best Bear I remember is Teddy Bear who loves Honey.  The worst memory I have is of a Hairy, Toothy, Smelly Black bear in a Zoo.  It is said ( I remember from my childhood) that a Bear when he grips a man in the jungle – he does two things – 1. He encircles the man with his arms so powerfully that the ribs break and the man succumbs 2. The bear tickles like hell – so that we die laughing.  Scary stories from childhood. Don’t know how much truth they have.

t is a common misconception that bears hibernate during the winter. While bears tend to slow down during the winter, they are not true hibernators. Black bears, Grizzly bears and Brown bears do go into a deep sleep during the winter months, known as torpor. Hibernation is when animals “sleep” through the winter.

So taking cues from the above two if we do an attribute listing for a Startpreneur – what do we find:

  1. Hold your customer so tight that the Customer Intimacy grows into Customer Lifetime Value and loyalty.

  2. Like a bear – please the customer so much, pamper them so much that they laugh, feel happy to share their satisfaction with your products/ services and they also spread the word of mouth.

  3. Make your products so Honey like – sweet, habit forming, affordable, accessible, that the customers get addicted to your brand forever.

    The Hopes Of The Devil.

This one is straight out of Google Search as I did not have another choice 🙂

Such hopes are highly pleasing to the devil!

(George Lawson, “A Practical Exposition of the Book of Proverbs” 1821)

“When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes!” Proverbs 11:7

Men derive almost the whole of their happiness from the hope of some future good

Wicked men may indulge themselves in hopes of eternal happiness also. Such hopes are highly pleasing to the devil, who keeps his slaves quiet by means of them, until they are brought into the same hopeless condition with himself! Thus the lief of a wicked man is spent in vain wishes, and toils, and hopes — until death kills at once his body, his hope, and his happiness!

Does the wicked man expect Heaven? How terrible will be the punishment of his presumptuous hopes, when he shall be hurled down headlong into the depths of eternal despair!

“But the hopes of the wicked come to nothing!” Proverbs 10:28

Influence Bartering – good ebook on Changethis

“There are billions of blogs out there on WordPress alone, as I turned to see the WordPress Reader.  It has never been easier to turn our expertise into a revenue stream of Best Friends, Followers and Fans who turn your customers OR one can become an  an influencer to help others.  I choose to do the later. Become an Influencer to my BFFFs and be their BFFF and be influenced by many of them.

The Important question is: What exactly are influencers and why are they important? As a general principle, an influencer is someone who has influence.  You’ll say “I know, I know, it isn’t very helpful to define a word by using the same word”, but it is really that simple. WOMM  or the Word-of-mouth marketing isn’t new and it’s the driving force behind consumer habits, whether it’s buying a product, watching a show, or just downloading an app.

In today’s digital world, the word ‘influencer’ is ascribed to someone with clout through digital channels, or ‘social currency.’ ! (  In this bitcoin Age! ) Whether one has a lot of followers or really high engagement, when they speaks, audience listens, they act, and—most importantly to brands—they buy.”

I read the ChangeThis.com recently and found an excellent ebook on Influence Bartering. Worth a Read.

Mind and Heart

Spiritual understanding is born of harmony between mind and heart.

This harmony of mind and heart does not require the mixing up of their functions.

It does not imply cross-functioning, but co-operative functioning. Their functions are neither identical nor co-ordinate.

Mind and heart must of course be balanced but this balance cannot be secured by pitching the mind against the heart or by pitching the heart against the mind.

It can be attained not through mechanical tension, but through intelligent adjustment.

Heart Of Gold

Free verse by JAY

An aminophylline, however hard it tries,
Will always be GOLD.
Are you upset by how gilt it is?
Does it tear you apart to see the aminophylline so chromatic?

I cannot help but stop and look at underlying metal.
Never forget the subjacent and basic metal.

The spot that’s really cunning,
Above all others is the marble.
Mmm.
Why is it so cunning?

And the Autogenerated third version is given below 🙂

Heart Of Gold

Free verse by JAY

An aminophylline, however hard it tries,
Will always be GOLD.
Never forget the aureate and gilded aminophylline.

I cannot help but stop and look at underlying metal.
Now fundamental is just the thing,
To get me wondering if metal are rudimentary.

The zany marble sings like a veined hair
Mmm. mmm, mmm.

Don’t we all?

Good story sent by a friend
I parked in front of a mall, wiping my car, when a tramp approached me.

From the looks of him, he had no car, no home,  no clean clothes, and no money.

There are times when you feel generous but sometimes you just don’t want to be bothered.

This was one of those “don’t want to be bothered times”.

I hope he doesn’t ask me for money, I thought.

He didn’t.

He sat down on the curb and after a few minutes he spoke.

“That’s a very pretty car,” he said.

He was ragged but he had an air of dignity around him. His scraggly beard keep more than his face warm.

I said, “Thanks,” and continued wiping my car.

He sat quietly. The expected plea for money never came.

As the silence between us widened something inside me said, “Ask him if he needs any help.”

I was sure he would say “Yes” but I held true to the inner voice.

“Do you need any help?” I asked.

He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall never forget.

We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it from those of higher learning and accomplishments.

I expected nothing but an outstretched grimy hand. But he spoke the three words that shook me.

“Don’t we all?” he said.

I was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, above a tramp in the street, until those three words hit me.

Don’t we all?

I needed help.

Maybe not for a meal or a place to sleep, but I needed help.

I reached in my wallet and gave him enough to get a warm meal.

Those three little words still ring true.

No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have accomplished, you need help too.

No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give help.

Even if it’s just a compliment, you can give that.

You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all. But they may be waiting for you to give them what they don’t have!

* A different perspective on life

* A glimpse at something beautiful

* A respite from daily chaos, that only you with a different view can see.

Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets.

Maybe he was more than that. Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise, to minister to people too comfortable in themselves.

Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a tramp, then said, “Go minister to that man cleaning the car, that man needs help.”

DON’T WE ALL?

🙏😊 Good Morning🙏😊 Have a wonderful weekend🙏😊🙏

VIA Angelist newsletter today

July 26, 2018
facebook.gif
Facebook had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

After the company’s quarterly earnings call with investors, FB’s stock price dropped ~20% in after-hours trading. Over $100B in value disappeared in an instant after FB announced disappointing revenue numbers and user growth.

Some context: that’s comparable to the entirety of General Motors, Ford and Target… combined. 😮

Why did the stock tank? A perfect storm hit one of Facebook’s core features, the News Feed:

  • Less “viral” clickbait in the feed. Facebook has committed to optimizing for “time well-spent” in the app, not overall engagement. While this shift made for a better experience for users, FB can’t show users as many ads as before.
  • Less feed personalization. In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal and recent GDPR regulations, Facebook revamped its data usage policies and privacy controls. These changes hurt FB’s ability to charge companies big bucks to specifically target ads.

But the most interesting change to the News Feed: the rollout of stories, a well-received but not-well-monetized feature that could change how most people use Facebook and their products altogether.

Stories might actually break Facebook

Stories – tappable, full-screen photos and videos – are replacing news feeds everywhere. The format was originally pioneered by Snapchat. In fact, right after Snapchat launched stories in 2013, Facebook tried to acquire them for $3B. 👀

Facebook worked around the failed acquisition by copying Stories inside Instagram (and then in Messenger… and then in Facebook itself).

It worked:

Instagram stories took off, with 250M+ users engaging with the feature less than a year after its launch. That’s over 50% of Instagram users… and close to double the number of Snapchat daily active users. 😈

Unfortunately, the success of Stories might shoot Facebook’s ad revenues in the foot. Companies are still figuring out how to build the ad units – engaging, vertical video ads that users won’t immediately tap past. Rest assured that #content creators everywhere are working to make Story ads profitable.

I liked this parable : Mathew 13

The Parable of the Sower (sometimes called the Parable of the Soils) is a parable of Jesusfound in the three Synoptic Gospels in Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, and Luke 8:4-15.

In the story, a sower sows seed and does so indiscriminately. Some seed falls on the path (wayside) with no soil, some on rocky ground with little soil, and some on soil which contained thorns. In these cases the seed is taken away or fails to produce a crop, but when it falls on good soil it grows, yielding thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold.

Jesus then (only in the presence of his disciples) explains that the seed represents the Gospel (the sower being anyone who proclaims it), and the various soils represent people’s responses to it (the first three representing rejection while the last represents acceptance.

I’m a gardener Mentor. I try and die the seeds to make Dreams grow into ambitions, translating into Vision, mission, goals, objectives, action plans, biz, marketing plans etal.

In my efforts, sometimes I come across very distressed mentees. I have to work on making the soil good as they have rocky soil of past bad experiences, thorny soil which does not allow seeds to germinate, or find soil. I spend 5, 13, 26, 52 weeks depending upon the STATE, and SITUATION.

I Sometimes come across Sand, silt or clay land or simply rocky land. Rarely I find delta land ( usualy in C Suite execs) which is fertile . Each gets a different mentor treatment.

It works. There are failures too. As the mentorees stop responding and throw seeds on footpath – it is eaten by birds and pigeons.

In one case, after sowing 150 revenue ideas and rigorously, tilling the land I found failure. I decided to move on. As the farmer/ mentoree just did not understand and allowed my gardening efforts fail.

Sad but true! It happens.

Gardener then moves on too…

Billionaire Richard Branson has some simple advice for those who want to succeed | Ladders

There’s a secret to Bransons’ success, and it’s very simple
He has one piece of advice for anyone still at the beginning of their careers: don’t give up. On Virgin’s website, he said:

“There have been so many times in my career where my ideas were overlooked. Friends, family members, people I looked up to, and the banks – not everyone always saw the potential I saw. But that didn’t deter me. Just because others don’t believe in your ideas from the get-go doesn’t mean that they are worthless. In my case, it drove me to want to succeed even more.”

He believes there’s always a second chance in life, for everything — and that if you give up, you never know what you would have achieved in the end.

“Imagine where J.K. Rowling would be if she didn’t keep persevering when others didn’t recognise the greatness of her books,” he said. “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was rejected 12 times and she was told not to quit her day job! Thomas Edison failed thousands of times to invent the lightbulb — if he’d given up, we’d all be in the dark. ”

Jay’s Quick Poetry-The Sharp And Grand Rock

Short story that inspired me to write a Quick Poem below

Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends and integrity. And you’re keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls — family, health, friends, integrity — are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered. And once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will have the beginnings of balance in your life.

The Sharp And Grand Rock

A Poem by Jay Parkhe

Whose rock is that? I think I know.
Its owner is quite angry though.
He was cross like a dark potato.
I watch him pace. I cry A’llo.

He gives his rock a shake,
And screams you’ve made a bad mistake.
The only other sound’s the break,
Of distant glasses and bars awake.

The Rock is sharp, Grand and deep,
But he has promises to keep,
Tormented with nightbirds he never sleeps.
Revenge is a promise a man must keep.

He rises from his flat bed,
With thoughts of violence in his head,
A flash of rage and he sees red.
Without a men-O-pause you turned and fled.

With thanks to the poet, Robert Frost, for the underlying structure

I like this as Startpreneur Resource.

Good morning. My Random Phrases generated for today :)

  1. Cup Of Joe Meaning: A cup of joe is an American nickname for a cup of coffee. The best of Bengaluru is in morning walks and wonderful Morning Cuppa of sugarless filtered Kaapi ! WOW!
  2. Dropping Like Flies Meaning: To fall down ill or to die in large numbers. NOPE. Shouldn’t happen.
  3. Break The Ice Meaning: Breaking down a social stiffness. Hmmm… Some progress.
  4. I Smell a Rat Meaning: A feeling that something is not quite right, or awry.  I know. This is a feeling all the time in some relationships, some situations. Must be careful.

  8. Elephant in the Room Meaning: Ignoring a large, obvious problem or failing to address an issue that stands out in a major way. This is one problem I notice with most mentees.  I read today that Disruption is Dead and HyperScalability is the IN thing. The Revenue Generation and the process required to do this and have the right Business Hacker mentors is an issue most startups face these days.
  9. Right Off the Bat Meaning: Immediately, done in a hurry; without delay.  I am superfast as my mind talks to my fingers and they translate my thoughts thru the keyboard .
  10. Happy as a Clam Meaning: The state of being happy; feeling delighted. At one level YES.  very happy. On another I still believe that Things have a tendency to average out by day end.

These phrases sometimes set the tone for my day and invoke creative juices, new ideas, thoughts and sometimes prose, sometimes verses flow 🙂

Story Telling : Lion, Cow and The Master/ Mentor

Why do we need a Master/ Mentor?

Story shared by a friend on WhatsApp this morning.
Once upon a time, a cow went out to graze in the jungle. Suddenly, she noticed a lion racing towards her. She turned and fled, fearing that at any moment the lion would sink his claws into her. The cow desperately looked for someplace to escape and at last, saw a shallow pond. Barely evading the lion’s reach, she jumped into the pond, and in the heat of the chase, the lion blindly leaped after her.

To the surprise of them both, the pond was extremely shallow yet filled with deep recesses of mud. After toppling over each other, the cow and the lion found themselves a short distance apart, stuck in the mud up to their necks. Both had their heads above water but were unable to free themselves no matter how much they writhed.

The lion repeatedly snarled at the cow and roared, “I am going to enjoy the sound of crunching your bones between my teeth!”

He thrashed about in fury but soon became fretful as he found no prospect of escape.

The cow thoughtfully laughed as the lion struggled to free himself and asked him, “Do you have a master?”

The lion disdainfully replied, “I am the king of the jungle. Why do you ask me if I have a master? I myself am the master!”

The cow said, “You may be the king of the jungle, but here all your power has failed to save your life.”

“And what about you?” Retorted the lion. “You are going to die here in this mud too!”’

The cow smiled mildly and said, “No, I am not.”

“If even I, the king of the jungle cannot free myself from this mud”, snapped the lion, “Then how can you, an ordinary cow?”

The cow gently replied, “I cannot free myself from this mud, but my master can. When the sun sets and he finds me absent at home, he will come looking for me. Once he finds me, he will raise me up and escort me home sweet home.”

The lion fell silent and coldly glared at the cow.

Soon enough, the sunset and the cow’s master arrived. He immediately recognized the plight she was in and lifted her to safety. As they walked home, the cow and the master both felt renewed gratitude for one another and pitied the lion they both would have been happy to save if only the lion had allowed them.

The cow represents a surrendered heart, the lion represents an egoistic mind, and the master represents the Guru. The mud represents the world, and the chase represents the struggle for existence therein.

Its good to be independent and not rely on anyone. But don’t take it to an extreme, you always need a partner/coach/mentor/ friend who will be always on the lookout for you.

Having them does not mean you are weak, it’s just that you can be stronger with their help.
Make sure to share this story with your partner/coach/mentor/ friend and express your gratitude.

These Random Phrases have come to be a judge for my daily Creative mood like a barometer:)

I saw the ardor kinship of my generation destroyed,
How I mourned sympathy.
Do sympathy make you shiver?
do they?

The quality that’s really transcendent,
Above all others is the goodness.
Now unknowable is just the thing,
To get me wondering if the goodness is unknown.

ardor are not fatless!
ardor are exceptionally rounded.
Down, down, down into the darkness of the ardor,
Gently they go – the potbellied, the rounded, the double-chinned.

The Sarcastic And Thundery Best Friend

Whose best friend is that? I think I know.

Random phrases I generate every day

Hello BFFFs.

( Best friends, fans, followers and some Frenemies who also visit my blog 🙂 ) A great morning to all of you.

How do I begin my Blog writing daily and what do I post.

I find generating random phrases every day as a good creative mind exercise.

I am a lateral thinker, I adapted Dr. Edward DeBono and his teachings early.

My Best Coach and Mentor I respect most is Dr. Marshall Goldsmith who taught me to be HUMAN FIRST.  Take final calls if the relationships are not working by forgiving each other.

The randomness of these phrases adds value and sometimes impacts my thoughts for the day.  I sometimes add few points on how the impact there was or should likely to be depending upon the time I post these on my Blog

Have a Great morning

  1. Jaws of Death

Meaning: Being in a dangerous or very deadly situation.

Hmmm… These days the fingers on the Keyboard do more damage than our tongues which are rarely used in the virtual era.

  2. Down For The Count

Meaning: Someone or something that looks to be defeated, or nearly so.

Well, at this moment I feel like the one defeated.  But there are some lights at the end of the tunnel, there are few sparks and things usually average out for me.

  3. Right Out of the Gate

Meaning: Right from the beginning; to do something from the start.

Hmm… let me think about this. yesterday I shared a lesson about Mystery as the opening.

  4. On the Same Page

Meaning: Thinking alike or understanding something in a similar way with others. This can always be a game changer in case of differences and disagreements. It works all the time.

  5. Swinging For the Fences

    Meaning: Giving something your all.

Yes. I am giving it my all. Every effort I do for future today, I believe I am Swinging for the fences.

Whenever I write Hmmm… EITHER I am undecided, or I am intuitive, Or I have already formed a judgement and still willing to give it a second thought, alternative options – “What else could it mean” chance.  In short, even in a fully stretched Elastic situation – this means I am still FLEXIBLE, I am Receptive to new idea, thought, solutions.

I also write another blog post picking up Random Sentences. 3 to 5 of them and look at them creatively to actually plan some of the days actions – not using the same words but twisting words, looking at their attributes and applying to problems I foresee in the day.

Sometimes, I am sitting on the horns of a dilemma. I turn to Gita and Bible and pick up a Shloka and a Verse to find solution to my problem.

As day advances, I share the best newsletter or quote I have seen on the day. I also then move on to writing a Poem, a Couplet, A haiku or some times all of them.  This is my blog posting.

Then I check the Blog page of every blogger who has liked my post or some of them who have not visited my blog or not given a like or comment on my posts and read their blogs and add like or comment.

That’s pretty much about my last 2 months’s blogging process.

The Sarcastic And Teary Best Friend

A Poem by Jay

Whose best friend is that? I think I know.
Its owner is quite sad though.
It really is a tale of woe,
I watch her frown. I say hello!

She gives her best friend a shake,
And sobs until the tears make.
The only other sound’s the break,
Of distant waves and birds awake.

The best friend is sarcastic, teary and deep,
But she has promises to keep,
Until then she shall not sleep.
She lies in bed with pillows that weep.

She rises from her crumpled bed,
With thoughts of madness in her head,
She idolises playing dead.
Facing the day with never ending dread.

With thanks to the poet, Robert Frost, for the underlying structure.

The Thundery And Blue Car

A Poem by Jay

Whose car is that? I think I know.
Its owner is quite happy though.
Full of joy like a vivid rainbow,
I watch her laugh. I cry hello.

She gives her car a shake,
And laughs until her belly aches.
The only other sound’s the break,
Of distant waves and birds awake.

The car is thundery, blue and deep,
But she has promises to keep,
After dark chocolates and lots of sleep.
Sweet dreams come to her cheap.

She rises from her gentle bed,
With thoughts of kittens in her head,
She eats her jam with lots of bread.
Ready for the day ahead.

With thanks to the poet, Robert Frost, for the underlying structure.

Hope is not a Strategy, These Random Phrases do come true for me sometimes.

Let’s see what’s in store for me today.

  1. Go For Broke

Jay’s Tantra 7 – For a Bad, Bad, Sad, Sad Day and the day just shines Bright!

I use this small hack I call as Tantra whenever I have a Bad BAd or Sad SAD day.

Someone once gifted me a Bible, and I have a childhood ShrimadbhagwatGita.

I open a page to read a Verse or a Shloka.

Yesterday, was one such day.  I went to my daily morning walks and stopped for taking some change at the Tea Shop.  The devout guy was lighting Agarbatti/ Incense to Lord Ganpati, Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Lakshmi.  I said, Good Omen ( Yes, even a Skeptic on a bad bad sad sad day can become believer ! ).

I read the following

2 Kings 2:18Passage: When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you not to go?”

And from Gita came

dhyaayato vishayaanh pumsah sangasteshhupajaayate |
sangaath samjaayate kaamah kaamaath krodho abhijaayate ||

A Shloka – my father taught me at the Age 7.

When a person dwells longingly on sense objects, an inclination towards them is generated.
This inclination develops into desire and desire gives rise to anger.

I got my messages – Strong and Clear. By evening I had put them to use and had Peace of mind and a good night’s sleep. Everything became alright.

Wanna try – Please do. It works for me every time.

I found this sentence very interesting.  Did you?  Provokes thoughts, No? I am called a Provocative Coach, who challenges coachees, mentees all the time with such and other questions 🙂 🙂

To end, I know many in India consider it a Bad Omen if a Cat – especially a black cat crosses the road.  This morning coming back from my walk, I noticed a Golden yellow colored cute cat, waiting to cross the road,  I stopped in my tracks, the Skeptic in me said,  “Move on, you are a skeptic, don’t have these thoughts, there is no such thing as BAD OMEN!  ”

AND,…. What happened was hilarious…..

…………………..

…………………… The Cute Golden Yellow color Cat

Simply nodded at me – as if saying – you cross first – I don’t believe in Bad Omens either 🙂

Change with the Time – Great WhatsApp forward from a friend.

In 1998, Kodak employed 1,70,000 employees and sold 85% of the world’s photo papers. Within the last few years, digital photography made them out of the market. Kodak went bankrupt and all his staff came on the road. .

Friends,
There was no shortage of quality at all, yet they were out of the market !!
reason???
They have not changed over time. !!

You have an idea that in the coming 10 years, the world will change completely and 70 to 90% of the people running today will be closed.

Welcome to the 4th Industrial Revolution …

Uber is just a software. He does not have a single car of his own, despite this he is the world’s largest taxi company.

Airbnb is the world’s largest hotel company, while they do not have a single hotel of their own.

There are many examples like paytm, ola cabs, oyo rooms.

There is no work left for young lawyers in the US now because the software named IBM Watson gives better legal advice throughout the moment. In the next 10 years, 90% of Americans will become unemployed … who will save 10% … they will be Super Specialists.

The software named Watson is diagnosed with 4x Accuracy of Cancer compared to humans. By 2030 the computer will be more intelligent than humans.

By 2018, Driverless cars will land on the roads. By 2020, this single invention will start to change the whole world.

90% cars will disappear from the streets of the world in the next 10 years … Those who will survive will either have electric cars or hybrid … roads will be empty, consumption of petrol will decrease by 90%, all Arab countries will become bankrupt .

You will request a car from a software like Uber and in a few moments, a driverless car will be parked at your door … if you share it with someone, that ride will be cheaper than your bike.

Due to being a driverless of cars, 99% of accidents will stop. This will stop the business of Car Insurance.

No employment like a driver will survive on earth. When 90% cars will disappear from cities and roads, problems like Traffic and Parking will end automatically … because a car will be equal to 20 cars today.

From today 5 or 10 years ago, there was no such place where there is no PCO. When the mobile phone arrived, the PCOs had to shut down. The PCO people started selling the mobile phones. Now the recharge is also going online.

Have you ever noticed ..?

Today, every third store in the market is a mobile phone store which does
sale, service and maintenance of phones and it’s accessories..

Almost all payments are done by Paytm today ..
People have started booking railway tickets with their phones. The transaction of money is also changing. Currency Note was replaced by Plastic Money and now it’s
Digital…

Hence…
Every Person should continue to make changes in his business or his / her way of working and should also change his / her nature over time for Good.

“Keep Updating / Upgrading Your Skills and Knowledge with Time”

The world is changing very fast ..
Keep Your eyes and ears open or else you will lose …

Wild Jay A Short Story by Jay

I have decided to become a Story Writer and a Story TI have decided to become a Story Writer and a Story Teller going forward. The Udemy Course was very useful so was this Story Generator. See what it produced. Wonderful nO?

I did some edits here and there to keep the flow and continuity.

Jay was thinking about Goji Berry again. Goji was an arrogant queen with brunette hair and sticky fingers, slimey, limp palms and pursed lips.
Jay walked over to the window and reflected on his pig in the mud surroundings. He had always hated snake burrow The Earth with its united, as he uninterested in what is under the earth. It was a place that encouraged his tendency to feel calm.
Then he saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the an arrogant figure of Goji Berry.
Jay gulped. He glanced at his own reflection. He was a wild, ruthless, whiskey drinker with ginger fingers and pouting lips. His friends saw him as an arrogant, anxious author. Once, he had even saved a tight old man that was stuck in a drain.
But not even a wild person who had once saved a tight old man that was stuck in a drain, was prepared for what Goji had in store today.
The clouds danced like bopping snakes, making Jay irritable. Jay grabbed a bendy rock that had been strewn nearby; he massaged it with his hurt fingers. He had caused the self hurt.
As Jay stepped outside and Goji came closer, he could see the outstanding glint in her eye.
“I am here because I want Apology,” Goji bellowed, in a sinister tone. She slammed her fist against Jay’s chest, with the force of 8735 humming birds. “I frigging hate you, Jay .”
Jay looked back, even more irritable and still fingering the bendy rock. “Goji, I am your Foster Father,” he replied.
They looked at each other with cross feelings, like two thundering, thoughtful tortoises rampaging at a very tactless accident, which had jazz music playing in the background and two vile uncles talking to the beat.
Jay studied Goji’s brunette hair and his hurt fingers and the pursed lips. Eventually, he took a deep breath. “I’m sorry, but I can’t give you Apology,” he explained, in pitying tones.
Goji looked angry, her body raw like a glorious, good gun.
Jay could actually hear Goji’s body shatter into 6000 pieces. Then the arrogant queen hurried away into the distance.
Not even a glass of whiskey would calm Jay’s nerves tonight.

Before we ask whether you are hearty, ask ourselves Are we HAIL?

FROM A SENIOR TEDX SPEAKER
https://lifehacker.com/use-the-hail-method-to-be-more-persuasive-and-trustwort-1599169164
Being persuasive is often a function of being (or at least appearing) trustworthy. The more people trust you, the more likely they are to listen to your words and do what you want. For that purpose, the HAIL method can guide you.
Sound consultant Julian Treasure explains the four principles of the HAIL method: Honesty, Authenticity, Integrity, and Love. While it might sound cheesy, living out these four ideas all have a direct effect on how trustworthy you come off and, as a result, how persuasive you are:
The H, honesty, of course, being true in what you say, being straight and clear.
The A is authenticity, just being yourself. A friend of mine described it as standing in your own truth, which I think is a lovely way to put it.
The I is integrity, being your word, actually doing what you say, and being somebody people can trust.
And the L is love. I don’t mean romantic love, but I do mean wishing people well, for two reasons. First of all, I think absolute honesty may not be what we want. I mean, my goodness, you look ugly this morning. Perhaps that’s not necessary. Tempered with love, of course, honesty is a great thing. But also, if you’re really wishing somebody well, it’s very hard to judge them at the same time. I’m not even sure you can do those two things simultaneously.
Of course, this isn’t revolutionary news. The more authentic and honest you are, the more people will be willing to trust you. That’s how trust works. But running through your conversations, speech, and behavior through this filter can help keep you on the right track.

Top 10 Fascinating Things Scientists Discovered About Salt

JANA LOUISE SMIT

Too often, salt is forgotten in its shaker, but the grainy, white stuff can get strange. Its influences range from bizarre reactions inside the human body to when stars die.

Salt can solve mysteries, help us explore space, and reveal Earth’s past. The most fascinating is sodium’s dual role of danger and savior: It kills millions every year but also offers a cheap weapon against infections and climate change.

Listverse – Daily Highlights

10Salt Is Better Than Soap

When someone arrives at the hospital, they go through debridement, which is basically the cleansing of any wounds with soap and water. Yet, thousands of patients need treatment for infections that occur after injuries are cleaned.

In 2015, doctors launched a study to see if salt water might prevent this from happening. They threw the remedy in at the deep end. Forget using a saline solution on paper cuts. Surgeons used it to clean open breaks on patients from five countries.

Around 2,400 people were treated with either a saline wash or soap and water. The patients were monitored for a year to document any infections. During this time, most patients who returned for additional operations were the ones who had their wounds soaped. Those who received a saltwater cleansing were less prone to infections, and their injuries healed better.

The difference was so significant that if doctors adopt the salty treatment, it could lead to a cheap way to disinfect serious injuries. This is good news for Third World countries where 90 percent of the world’s traffic deaths happen.[1]

9Salt Causes Brain Inflammation

In 2018, researchers put mice on a high-salt diet and the results were scary. Mice are highly intelligent mammals, but the sodium dumbed them down. They performed badly in maze tests, and reactions to whisker stimulation or new objects were tepid.

Previously, salt-induced cognitive issues were believed to happen because of high blood pressure. However, the study proved that salt could mess up important parts of the brain even without blood pressure issues.

Decreased blood flow to the cortex and hippocampus impaired learning and memory. This was the end result of a crazy thing that the immune system did. When it detected too much salt in the animal’s gut, inflammatory signals were sent to the brain to compromise blood vessels and thinking.[2]

The gut’s independent signaling is already responsible for other diseases linked to poor brain blood vessels—multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease. But this is the first time that salt was identified as a trigger for the dangerous inflammation.

On a positive note, the mice recovered their smarts when they were switched to a low-sodium diet or gut signals were disrupted by drugs.

8The Salt Tooth

Many people are the delicious owner of a sweet tooth. Evidence now also points to the existence of a genetic salt tooth.

In 2016, a study followed 400 locals in Kentucky who were all at risk for heartdisease. They kept food diaries and gave DNA samples. Among the volunteers were individuals who carried a gene variation called TAS2R48. Previously linked to a greater sensitivity to taste bitterness, the gene also appeared to make certain people love salt.

In fact, the volunteers with TAS2R48 were twice as likely to consume more than the safe amount of salt as compared to those without the gene. Worse, the gene could be why people who taste bitterness more vividly (and hate it) sprinkle even more salt to make food taste better.

The discovery of the “salt tooth” gene is the first step in helping those with TAS2R48 to make food choices that won’t cause blood pressure issues, which may cause heart disease or shortened lives.[3]

7Salty Stars Die Sooner

When Simon Campbell, a stellar astrophysicist from Australia, found old research papers from the 1980s, he realized that they contradicted an established belief. This belief stated that all the stars in a given cluster evolve in a similar way.

However, the 1980 papers described differences within a group called NGC 6752. Moreover, the older study claimed that sodium was responsible. Back in the day, observation techniques were not as high-tech as today. To confirm the findings, Campbell turned Chile’s powerful Very Large Telescope on the cluster, which was located 13,000 light-years away. The claims were true.

Additionally, Campbell’s team discovered that sodium killed stars quicker than those that contained less salt. The low-sodium stars followed a normal evolutionary path and, at the end, burned hydrogen and helium before shedding gas and dust. What remained turned into white dwarfs.

Their highly salted cousins never entered the shedding phase but died directly into white dwarfs. This was unexpected as all stars were thought to first lose mass in their final years. Though salt is definitely a factor, the exact reason why it removes an entire life phase is not entirely clear.[4]

6Morphine For A Warming Earth

In 2018, scientists at the Planetary Science Institute proposed to salt the air like a cured ham. The reason? To cool Earth down. Humans’ dependence on fossil fuels is still dialing up the planet’s temperature. The idea is to release table salt (perhaps a salt mine’s worth) into the troposphere. Its strong reflective properties might mirror incoming heat back into space.

But this is geoengineering, a practice involving environmental manipulation to stave off climate change. This remains a patchwork craft where precision understanding of all the consequences cannot be predicted.

Salt may be harmless to humans and more reflective than other suggested dustings, but it contains chlorine. This ozone nibbler could worsen the condition of Earth’s protective shield against radiation. Salt might cool Earth but could wreck the chemistry of both the troposphere and stratosphere.[5]

Researchers admit the move is a desperate one for a situation that needs something better. They liken salt seeding to the “application of morphine in a medical situation.”

5Chance To Preview Extraterrestrial Life

Deep below Antarctica’s surface are pockets that contain ecosystems separate from the rest of the world. These subterranean lakes are super salty. In 2018, researchers found a pair of these saline lakes in Canada. For the moment, they cannot dip their toes or test tubes in the water. Both lakes are thought to be over 610 meters (2,000 ft) below the Devon Ice Cap.

What makes the pair so interesting is that they have been sealed away for millennia. Other subglacial lakes previously produced the samples that proved microbes had their own communities away from sunlight and the world.

The Canadian lakes are special. Calculations estimate that their salt content—up to five times that of the oceans—make these the most hypersaline bodies on Earth.

They also have a touch of space in them. Jupiter’s moon Europa has an icy crust over what is likely a saltwater sea, which is a requirement for life. If Canada’s own ice-locked lakes produce life, it might prove that similar ecosystems exist in salty oceans across the solar system.[6]

4Salt Makes Ceres Spotty

Ceres is a dwarf planet in our solar system’s asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. For some time, something about Cere’s appearance has been a scientific mystery. Around 130 inexplicable bright spots dotted the surface of the dwarf planet.

In 2015, NASA’s Dawn spacecraft orbited the small world and beamed back to Earth a likely answer. When the incoming data was analyzed, it appeared that the shiny spots were comprised of hydrated magnesium sulfates. Footbath lovers know this compound as Epsom salt.

Most of the patches were found within impact craters, and water ice also seemed to play a role in their creation. Several craters produced a haze after sunrise, possibly from water vapor leaving the spots. Some spots also have the reflectivity of polar sheets, a strong indication that Ceres might have vast reservoirs of ice underneath the crust.[7]

How these oddities came to be on Ceres in the first place is also unknown, but impacts likely exposed ice and salt beneath the crust.

3Worst Droughts In History

During 2017, researchers were drilling for samples in the Dead Sea when they found something horrifying—two droughts capable of bringing civilization to its knees should they repeat. The team had been scouting for salt deposits to look at past rainfall. The logic was sound. A dry spell would leave more deposits, while rainy years thinned them.

When the drill hit the depths that represented 10,000 and 120,000 years ago, respectively, salt showed up in a big way. Found around 305 meters (1,000 ft) below the seabed, they showed droughts unlike anything recorded before. Both times, the Middle East suffered dry weather that lasted millennia. At its worst, only 20 percent of normal rainfall was seen. Humans and Neanderthals existed during the first, and by the second, Neanderthals were gone.

Scientists are worried that a rebound may make millions suffer this time, and climate predictions show the region will turn arid. The salt layers proved that the deadliest droughts happened without human interference. Now, with man-made climate change, the much-needed freshwater could disappear again.[8]

2The Birth Of Oxygen

Earth was pretty much a choke zone until the first oxygen bloomed. Called the Great Oxidation Event, this change was made possible when bacteria learned photosynthesis and started releasing oxygen.

Exactly when this event happened was a mystery until 2018, when the world’s oldest salt was found. The crystallized rocks were drawn from a 2-kilometer-deep (1.2 mi) shaft in Russia.

The crystals, chemically identical to table salt, formed 2.3 billion years ago after an ancient ocean evaporated. The sample contained sulfate—something which forms in seawater when oxygen reacts with sulfur. Not only did it prove when the Oxidation Event happened, but the vast amount of sulfate showed that it spread at a rapid clip.[9]

The massive rate at which oxygen was pumped into the atmosphere was surprising, but it settled another question. Did bacteria take millions of years to raise the 20 percent oxygen level in the atmosphere? The Russian salt showed that the process was not gradual. For some reason, the event was more like the burst from a fire hose.

1It Might Become A Controlled Substance

At the 2012 World Nutrition meeting in Rio, researchers proposed that salt be regulated by companies or governments. The population is overdosing on sodium, a leading cause of premature deaths. Not just a few thousand, either. Millions of people die of high blood pressure every year because of salt added to food.

A human needs 350 milligrams daily to stay alive. Meanwhile, an average American ingests 3,500 milligrams per day. The biggest culprit is sodium hidden from the consumer. A slice of store-bought bread already accounts for 250 milligrams of sodium. A can of vegetables contains around 1,000 milligrams. Double that in one fast-food meal.

Researchers are leaning toward taking the choice away from companies that add salt to improve taste in low-quality food and use salt water to sell meat at a “heavier” price. As salt causes thirst, beverage sellers have little incentive to support salt reduction. Faced with hidden sodium and industrial overuse, the individual cannot effectively reduce his intake. For this reason, the government regulation of salt may be the only option.[10]

Fast paced learning continues. :)

Founder: Vandana Sharma

Year it was founded: 2017

Sector: Business Services

Based out of: Bengaluru

Major Vandana Sharma has been a pathbreaker all her life. Her sense of adventure and tenacity led to her reaching the position of Major in the Indian Army. As a woman and a successful officer, she broke many stereotypes about women in uniform while in service. Her career in the armed forces is distinguished with her contribution to the Kargil War of 1999 being recorded and commended in the Military History of Army Ordnance Corps. From then to today, her entrepreneurial spirit, as she puts it, has attracted her to situations that required her innovative spirit and problem solving skills to resolve. Post her military career, Vandana forayed into the corporate world and has 21 years of diverse experience across multiple sectors. Working in leadership positions, she has added value to hiring practices and organisational transformation at companies like Wipro, Myntra and GMR. She established StartupPeopleConsulting in 2017 in Bengaluru. StartupPeopleConsulting is an organisation geared towards guiding entrepreneurs as they move towards their goals. Vandana is a TEDx speaker and she also speaks at various women’s forums to inspire and motivate more women to live independent and empowered lives.

Time in the army

Vandana was raised as a ‘fauji’ kid. Her father, and many other members of her family, were part of the armed forces. She found herself dreaming of being in the armed forces from a very young age and successfully took forward the family tradition of serving the country. Looking back, she narrates an experience that shaped her conviction. “My father was in the Air Force and my brother who is eight-years-older than me also joined the army. I would wear my father’s cap when he would return home and look myself in the mirror wondering if I could ever wear the uniform. I was in grade two or three then.”

Women were not allowed in the armed forces at the time, but change was in the offing. Women were included for the first time on the rolls in 1992 and Vandana knew she wanted to be part of this landmark change. In a batch of 33, she became one of the first few women to don the army greens. Her leaderships skills shone through, and over the course of the next 10 years, she attained the rank of Major and served with distinction in the Kargil War. Speaking about her time at the Army, she shares, “If you can run as fast, shoot as well, and do what you are signed up for – in my case, it was being able to supply stores effortlessly – as well as other male counterparts, nobody looks down upon you or considers you less.”

Business story

Following her successful stint in the army, she forayed into the corporate world. Her unique brand of leadership and experience helped her make significant contributions as an organisation transformer at Myntra, GMR, and Wipro – all large companies with commensurately large challenges.

While working with these companies, she realised that she had an entrepreneurial streak in her, being drawn to situations where things were “being done for the first time in an organisation or amid chaos and needed a fix.” Importantly, she realised, as she says, “It gave me a lot of joy to share my experience and help guide budding entrepreneurs on setting up startups and working with limited resources, financial constraints and acute deadlines.”

Her passion for supporting budding entrepreneurs took root and she founded StartUpPeopleConsulting in August 2017. Vandana shares, “A lot of entrepreneurs learn the hard way after making mistakes right from the start — from the time of searching for co-founders and early employees to find the right talent as per not just the skill or sector but also the values and vision of the organisations. My project helps early entrepreneurs with all people-related matters and also helps build their networks and teams across locations with minimum effort and speedy timelines.”

Challenges of starting up

Vandana finds, that like most entrepreneurs, her main issues are resource allocation, prioritisation, and selecting the right projects to address the right issues in challenging areas. Of course, scaling up and monetisation are areas of focus as she builds her business.

GlobalLinker Advantage

Vandana finds GlobalLinker very helpful as a networking tool. She says,“GlobalLinker is a great platform for digital meetings for small businesses. I am exploring business opportunities to expand my business network. This platform should be able to bring like-minded folks together who can leverage on each other and grow from strength to strength. The productivity tools and offers are very useful.”

Big business dream

Vandana’s dreams reveal a lot about her determined and visionary nature. When asked about her big business dream, she says, “I want to contribute towards building and nurturing an ecosystem for startups in India. I want to ensure that new-age organisations are agile and swift-footed to enable meeting market dynamics globally, have consistent performances like any other economic power, and build a great work ethic and culture in Indian startups. The right foundation and talent could help them grow into multi-billion organisations. Besides this, I am passionate about making a difference to this world. The causes which are close to my heart are women’s empowerment and doing something meaningful for armed forces veterans.”

Advice to aspiring entrepreneurs

“It’s a marathon so stay the course and don’t sprint. My motto in life has been: The universe falls in love with a stubborn heart! What you wish for always comes true if you work hard for it, so if you believe in your journey and purpose, it will come true one day,” shares Vandana.

WhatsApp forward: TEN ADVICES from a Supreme Court JUDGE who handled Family Dispute Courts

Can’t assure the authenticity of this message:

1.Don’t encourage your son and his wife to stay under same roof with you. Best to suggest them to move out, even to the extent of renting a house. It’s their problem to find a separate home.
More the distance between you and your children’s families, the better is the relationship with your in laws.

2.Treat your son’s wife as his wife, not as your own daughter, maybe just treat her as a friend. Your son would always be your Junior but, if you think that his wife is of the same rank and if you ever scolded her, she would remember it for life.
In real life, only her own mother and not u will be viewed as a person qualified to scold or correct her.

3.Whatever habits or characters your son’s wife has is not your problem at all, it is your son’s problem. It isn’t your problem as he is an adult already.

4.Even when living together, make each others businesses clear, don’t do their laundry, don’t cook for them and don’t baby sit their children. Unless, of course, there is a special request by your son’s wife and you feel that you’re capable and don’t expect anything in return.
Most importantly, you shouldn’t worry about your son’s family problems. Let them settle themselves

5.Pretend to be blind and deaf when your son and his wife are quarrelling. It’s normal that the young couple do not like their parents to be involved in the dispute between husband and wife.

6.Your grandchildren totally belong to your son and his wife. However they want to raise their children, it is up to them. The credit or blame would be on them.

7.Your son’s wife need not necessarily respect and serve you. It is the son’s duty. You should have taught your son to be a better person so that you and your son’s wife relationship could be better.

8.Do more planning for your own retirement, don’t rely on your children to take care of your retirement. You had already walked through most of your journey in life, there are still a lot of new things to learn through out the journey.

9.It is your own interest that you enjoy your retirement years. Better if you could utilise & enjoy everything that you had saved before you die. Don’t let your wealth become worthless to you.

10.Grandchildren don’t belong to your family, they’re their parents precious gift.

PLEASE NOTE
_This message is not only for you. Please share it with your friends, parents, in-laws, uncles, aunties, husband or wife to find peace & progress in life as it is *based on life long experience* of a *judge* who handled *family dispute courts*.

Have you felt Humbled?

I was going thru some of my old EverNote notes.
It read:
“Unable to get people on con call.
Someone commented on my old tie –all it needs is a stitch.
I was humbled.”
Those were good old Corporate days. Sometimes due to the Global Time Differences, it would become difficult to get people on Conference Calls/ Video Calls/ Audio Chats.
I remember vividly, one of the colleagues took a dig at my tie whose label had come out from one side and was visible to the powerful camera and hence to all participants.
My colleague said “All your Old Tie needs is a Stitch”.   It humbled me.
Today, I do not remember the name of the colleague and my bad, I did not note it down in the Evernote.
Thinking – how to mend some of the Old ties? The Old friendships. The Oldest ones for example.  A friend sent me a WhatsApp last afternoon “All well? No news from you for long?”
I thought, this friend was visiting USA to his two sons and may not have access to his Indian phone number/ whatsapp as it is a long stay – he had planned to stay for 6 months.
Then after a while, I found two missed calls and one which stopped before 3 rings ( Damn Redmi Y1 and Damn my One Plus 5 T).  I called him.  He was back 15 days ago and was shifting home after 34 years.  We became colleagues and later thick friends since 1985.  His old flat / building was going under renovation and the neighbors were concerned that he had not yet vacated the flat so that the builder can start work.  He shifted to a small one bedroom flat. Sitting among boxes, he thought of me and called. He was worried as most babyboomers do when they do not get RESPONSE.
We had a catch up chat, I said I may visit your town soon for a morning/ evening trip and will try and atleast speak from  airport.  He said stay back, be my guest. Let’s catch up. We may be gone again for a long long time to USA and who knows….
I knew I was humbled again – All the Old Tie needed what just a proverbial STITCH.

Read somewhere. Art of Dealing. Story telling

A retired old couple returned to a Mercedes dealership where the salesman promised to hold a car for them.

But they found the car was just sold to a beautiful, leggy, busty blonde in a mini skirt and a halter top.

The old man was visibly upset. He spoke to the salesman sharply, “Young man, you said you hold that car till we raised the $95,000 asking price, yet you closed the deal for $75,000 to the young lady there. And if I remember right, you had insisted there was no discount for this model !

“The salesman took a deep breath, cleared his throat and reached for a large glass of water.

“Well, what can I tell you? She had the cash ready, didn’t need any financing help, and, Sir, just look at her, how could I resist?”, replied the grinning salesman sheepishly.

Just then the young woman walked over to the senior couple and gave the car keys to the old man.

“There you go,” she said. “I told you I could get him to lower the price. See you later Dad, Happy Father’s day.”

Once again….. don’t mess with seniors. I love this one.
A great laugh. 😛😛😛😛😛
