Fawn Lake
Catherine PondYou like sex with other women
because it makes you feel safe,
she says. Nothing makes me
feel safe, I explain. She is married

but when her daughter wins
the fishing contest at Sacandaga,
she offers me the prize trout.

relieved, or thankful. She who knows

nourished by this small, dead thing.from the book FIELDGLASS / Southern Illinois University PressREAD ABOUT TODAY’S POEM
