… that today is Melvil Dewey’s Birthday (1851)? American librarian Melvil Dewey is the one we have to thank for creating the Dewey Decimal Classification system that is used in most public and school libraries. Trivia buffs: Dewey is also known for the creation of hanging vertical files, which were first introduced at the Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago.
