I came across to you during a bleak twilight.
You eavesdropped to the silent scream in me;
I peeked at what you hid in your eyes.
Like every stranger who’d recognize one another
from the same shade of dark clouds they carry overhead,
we also acknowledged each other
by exchanging embarrassed smiles
as the witnesses of the never-ending darkness
in our worn-out hearts.
You gave me a quick nod,
I granted you half a smile,
then we went our separate ways.
