On June 28, 2007, in a ceremony in Washington, D.C., the bald eagle was officially removed from the list of threatened and endangered species, 40 years after coming close to extinction. After nearly disappearing from most of the United States, the bald eagle is now flourishing across the nation and no longer needs the protection of the Endangered Species Act!
