Did you know…
… that today, besides being April Fools’ Day (Happy April Fools’ Day!), is Pompeii Ruins Discovery Day? On this day in 1748, the ruins of Pompeii were found. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in the summer of A.D. 79, the Roman town of Pompeii was buried under several feet of ash and rock. The ruined city remained frozen in time until it was discovered by a surveying engineer in 1748. Pompeii has been a tourist destination for over 250 years. Today it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, with approximately 2.5 million visitors every year.
