The definition is bit complex:
determinismː mɪnɪz(ə)m/ noun PHILOSOPHY – the doctrine that all events, including human action, are ultimately determined by causes regarded as external to the will. Some philosophers have taken determinism to imply that individual human beings have no free will and cannot be held morally responsible for their actions.
The C-Suitor would know that there exists many philosophies and many go towards people justifying and providing newer excuses. A determined C-Suitor sees thru them all. 🙂 (Italics are mine).
By Merriam Webster:
Simple Definition of determinism
Reminds me of the Three Envelope story and the tendency of people in work life to blame the past.
Interesting Read from Encyclopedia Britannica :
Determinism, in philosophy, theory that all events, including moral choices, are completely determined by previously existing causes.
Determinism is usually understood to preclude free will because it entails that humans cannot act otherwise than they do.
The theory holds that the universe is utterly rational because complete knowledge of any given situation assures that unerring knowledge of its future is also possible.
For him, the present state of the universe is the effect of its previous state and the cause of the state that follows it.
If a mind, at any given moment, could know all of the forces operating in nature and the respective positions of all its components, it would thereby know with certainty the future and the past of every entity, large or small.
The Persian poet Omar Khayyam expressed a similar deterministic view of the world in the concluding half of one of his quatrains:
“And the first Morning of Creation wrote / What the Last Dawn of Reckoning shall read.”
For a Business Person though, the Business Dictionary.com will make more sense:
Belief that all things in the world are subject to a universal law: every event follows from a cause and causes a next event to follow.
Therefore, while nothing is predetermined, whatever happens under a given set of circumstances is determined by what options were available and what actions were taken or not taken. (I like this Thesis).
